Jharkhand Academic Council provides the JAC Class 12 English Syllabus online. The students can check the latest syllabus and cover up all the topics in detail. JAC Class 12 English Syllabus 2026
Section A: Reading Skills
1. One unread passage will be used to evaluate vocabulary, interpretation, analysis, inference, and comprehension. The paragraph could be literary, descriptive, or factual.2. To evaluate understanding, interpretation, analysis, inference, and evaluation, one case-based factual passage that has not been seen before, along with verbal and visual inputs like statistical data, charts, etc.
Note: The two passages will have a combined word limit of 600–750 words. There will be multiple-choice and objective-type questions.
Section B: Writing
II Grammar (7 Marks)3. Questions about Clauses and Tenses in Gap Filling
4. Sentence reordering and transformation questions (a total of seven out of the eight provided questions must be completed).
III Creative Writing Skills (16 Marks)
5. Write a 50-word classified advertisement as a brief writing assignment. One of the two questions that must be answered (3 Points) One format, one piece of content, one expression
6. A brief writing assignment: a 50-word poster. Please respond to one of the two questions that were provided. (3 points)One format, one piece of content, one expression
7. Long Writing Task: 120–150 word speech based on visual and verbal cues about topics that are current and age-appropriate. Please respond to one of the two questions that were provided. (5 Points: 1 for Format; 2 for Content; 2 for Expression)
8. Long Writing Task: In 120–150 words, debate a topical issue that is current and relevant based on verbal and visual inputs. Answer one of the two questions that were provided. (5 Points) Content: 2 / Expression: 1 / Format: 1)
Section C: Literature Text Book and Supplementary Reading Text
There will be a range of assessment items in this section to gauge understanding, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and extrapolation beyond the text, such as multiple choice questions, objective type questions, short answer questions, and long answer questions.9. One of the two poetry extracts from Hornbill to evaluate understanding, appreciation, analysis, inference, and interpretation. (3 Marks = 1x1)
10. One of the two prose excerpts from the book Hornbill is used to gauge understanding, appreciation, analysis, and interpretation. (3 Marks = 1x1)
11. One of the two prose extracts from the book Snapshots will be evaluated for appreciation, understanding, interpretation, analysis, and inference. (4*1= 4 Marks) 12. Out of four questions, two short answer questions (one from poetry and one from prose in the book Hornbill) must be answered to in 40–50 words.
13. Critical thinking should lead to inferential answers to questions. (3x2=6 Marks)
14. One 40–50 answer to a short answer question from the book Snapshots. Critical thinking should lead to inferential answers to questions. You need to answer one of the two questions. (3 Marks = 1x1)
15. One long question (between 120 and 150 words) based on a passage from Hornbill's poetry or prose. Answers may be framed around incident, theme, passage, extract, or event as benchmarks to evaluate extrapolation within and outside of the text. The student will respond to the question with analysis and evaluation. Whoever answers both questions correctly. 1 x 6 = 6 Marks
16. One long answer question (120–150 words) to evaluate overall comprehension and extrapolation beyond the text, based on the chapters from the book Snapshots. Utilizing incidents, events, and themes as points of reference, provide analytical and evaluative answers to the following questions. Whoever answers both questions correctly. 1 x 6 = 6 Marks
