Global Media Common Entrance Test (GMCET), previously known as the All India Media Entrance Test (AIMCET), is the institution and university-level entrance examination conducted to offer admissions into undergraduate media courses, such as BJMC (Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication), BA-JMC (Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication), BMC (Bachelor of Mass Communication), BMM (Bachelor of Mass Media), BA (Media & Communication), BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies), BSc (Media Technologies), and BSc (Animation & Graphics). GMCET was first conducted by the Global Media Education Council (GMEC) in 2021. The exam is powered by edinbox, which is the largest education-focused platform in South Asia.

The Global Media Education Council (GMEC) is responsible for conducting GMCET. The mass communication & journalism exam is the first of its kind initiative held by the Global Media Education Council. Earlier, the GMCET exam was christened the All India Media Common Entrance Test (AIMCET). The Global Media Education Council started conducting the GMCET exam in 2021. GMEC is a global professional body of practitioners, media educators, departments of universities, and media institutes. The council works as a bridge between the three stakeholders, which are learners (trainees), media educators (institutes), and the industry (recruiters).

GMCET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

To appear in GMCET(AIMCET) 2026 exam, an applicant needs to fulfill certain GMCET 2026 eligibility criteria set by the Global Media Education Council (GMEC). Here's what a student needs to have:

  • Students willing to apply for undergraduate programmes, such as BA-JMC and BJMC, should have qualified in 10+2 in any stream.

  • General category applicants must secure at least 50% in 10+2 to be eligible to apply. For reserved categories, the minimum score is 45%

  • Those with a three or four-year diploma degree from a reputed institute can also apply for GMCET 2026.

GMCET 2026 Application Form

Students who wish to appear for the GMCET 2026 exam have to complete the application form available on the official website. Check out the GMCET application process 2026 below:

  • Visit the official website- gmcet.in.

  • Fill in your details in the 'Application Open 2026' box on the right side of the homepage.

  • Click on 'Submit' and you will receive an automated email with a Username and Password on your registered email ID/phone number.

  • Now log in to the official portal again using the Username and Password provided.

  • Complete the registration by entering all the required details.

  • Submit the application fee (Rs. 1000) through Credit/ Debit Card/ Net Banking/UPI.

  • You will receive the Application Form Summary on the GMCET profile page and registered email ID.

  • Download the Application Form Summary and take a printout for future reference.

GMCET Syllabus 2026

GMCET 2026 Syllabus comprises four sections:

  • English Language & Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
  • Society, Politics, Economy, History
  • Films, Television, Radio, Entertainment Media Knowledge
  • Brands & Brand Communication Basic Knowledge

As per the prescribed GMCET 2026 syllabus, some questions will be asked related to the course a student is applying for. There will be objective-type questions in the paper. Test takers should prepare each of these sections well to qualify for the GMCET 2026 exam.

GMCET 2026 Exam Pattern

As per GMCET exam pattern 2026, the entrance will be held for 60 minutes, and test takers need to attempt 100 multiple-choice questions. For every correct answer, 1 mark is awarded and the best thing is that there is no negative marking. The exam is for a total of 100 marks. There were four sections with 25 questions in each- English Language & IQ, Films, television, radio, entertainment, General knowledge of society, politics, economy, history, and Brands and Business Communication.
